Guide to Vintage Shopping - North & West London

One of the many joys of living in London besides the restaurants, wine bars, food markets, neighbourhood boroughs and deer filled leafy parks, is the shopping. While Oxford Street, bursting with traditional retail fashion brands and bustling with thousands of people, may be what immediately springs to mind, our beloved city is also blessed with some fantastic vintage and consignment shops dotted in every corner.

Find our guide to vintage shopping in London below, designed to give you a guide to North & West, Central & East London vintage shopping, so you can shop by area and avoid long treks on the tube.

WEST LONDON

RELLIK, 8 Golborne Road, Maida Vale, W10 5NW

Located just a short, scenic walk along the canal from my house, Rellik is quickly becoming my neighbourhood favourite and ‘go-to’ vintage shop. Unassumingly placed on the corner of a quiet road, you could easily miss this gem. With an elevated, colour coordinated and chic curation of original Gianni Versace, Prada, YSL, Balenciaga and Chloe, Rellik certainly provides a luxury vintage shopping experience. I was particularly taken with the array of block colour matching pant suits, I spotted a bright green Prada and black power suit from Versace (total £295) which would give any women the confidence to act like a boss. While all the big names are present, you will also find other brands such as BIBA, a favourite from the seventies, and contemporary brand Simone Rocha, as well as an impressive selection of costume jewellery, hats suitable for weddings and the races, and designer shoes. During my recent visit, I couldn’t resist a beautiful orange silk blazer with decorative gold buttons from YSL featured in our Style Wedding Guest Style Ideas article. I also still have my eye on a beautiful blush pink blazer and skirt suit from Simone Rocha, characterised by the over-exaggerated silhouette and interesting detailing that Simone Rocha does so well.

I would advice visiting Rellik in person as you receive a 10% in store discount. Plus when you are dealing with vintage designers particularly from early noughties, nineties and earlier, you will find sizing varies from modern day sizing! However you will find a great offering online too, they save their more premium and expensive pieces for online so it’s definitely worth checking out, HERE.

FOUND AND VISION, 318 Portobello Road, Notting Hill, W10 5RU

Nestled in the heart of Portobello, infamous for its antique fairs, pop up stalls, charity shops and weekend markets, Found and Vision is a well known vintage store in the area and having recently dressed ITV host Laura Whitmore in one of their pieces, this shop is set to gain more noriety. Found and Vision has a great selection of vintage branded and unbranded pieces. On my recent trip, I was particularly taken with an amazing leather Roberto Cavalli leather blazer with cowboy inspired detailing, which I would pair with some mushroom mink coloured leather trousers from Ralph Lauren that I found. Some other spots included a beautiful white beaded mini dress from the late sixties which was unbranded, and would be perfect for a summer cocktail party or a winter soiree with sheer black tights, and a pillbox red Dior suit that made me feel as if I was in Mad Men. To give an idea on pricing this white short unbranded dress was £450 and the Roberto Cavalli blazer came in around £1000 mark, this gives an indication into the costs which are a little higher than Rellik for example.

ONE OF A KIND ARCHIVE, 259 Portobello Road, W11 1LR

If you’re looking for the top end of luxury vintage shopping, One of Kind Archive is the place to go. It is the small but mighty powerhouse of archive designer pieces. Not one for the faint hearted or shallow pocketed, One of Kind are used to visits from vintage lover and all round fashion queen Camille Charriere and may treat you with an ever so subtle hint of disdain if you don’t look like you’re planning on dropping $$$. That aside, the boutique has a killer selection of iconic designers from 80s, 90s and 00s with runway and looks that defined a decade. Think Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and Galliano’s infamous newsprint dress circa 2000.

VOUT, 79 Ledbury Road, Notting Hill, W11 2AG

The new kid on the block, Vout, opened its doors in Notting Hill in March following the success of its flagship store on Colombia Road in East London. With a small but powerful curation, Vout has a great selection of pieces from weathered leathers to a Victorian vintage bridal dress to denims, vintage sunglasses and designer handbags. In terms of designers, I spotted a beautiful Max Mara wool dress, a delicious chocolate Fendi raincoat, an Old England Burberry trench, a blush pink Gucci handbag and some jet-black, perfectly fitting Levi’s jeans that came home with me, as well as some unbranded designers clearly from decades gone by. Definitely worth a visit!

NORTH

LAURA VON BEHR, Canonbury Yard, Islington, N1 7BJ

Laura’s boutique is a modestly sized, bright, beautiful boutique in Canonbury Yard in Islington. You feel immediately calm and at ease once she invites you into her serene space. Her collection may be selective but it is beautifully curated, and certainly original. She particularly specialises in original vintage, pretty priory dresses sourced from the late sixties and seventies. During my recent trip I was lucky enough to find a gorgeously simple cotton dress from the late 1920s, with only a small darning at the back, it was in great condition and quite the find! Laura’s selection is perfect for summer events and particularly wedding guest outfit ideas, providing the perfect outfit without the fear of someone having the same! Her prices range from £100-170 ish mark.

I particularly loved Laura’s ethos and commitment to slow fashion, and her network of like minded individuals, she gave me a great recommendation of a sustainable alteration and seamstress called Splendor Sitches. This family run business specialises in altering vintage and preloved pieces.

Please note, Laura Von Behr’s boutique is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, to book an appointment visit her website HERE.

MAGPIE VINTAGE, 3 Camden Passage, Angel, N1 8EA

A recommendation from the lovely Laura Von Behr, Magpie Vintage has a great selection of vintage and upcycled pieces. This boutique is perfect for summer classics, featuring lots of white cotton and colourful crochet. I particularly love their oversized collar shirts that are making a comeback at the moment. Definitely to check out if you’re in need of some summer essentials and love soft feminine styling with a touch of luxury and sustainability. Think colourful knits, colourful crochet, oversized shirts and colourful matching sets.
